Rita Kop

My name is Rita Kop and I work as lecturer in the Department of Adult Continuing Education of the University of Wales Swansea in the UK. Apart from research and teaching my remit is to widen participation in Higher Education through ‘reaching in’ activities of working with University departments in developing progression routes for non-traditional students. Prior to this I have managed a number of large Widening Participation Projects in South West Wales and the Valleys. These projects were dynamic collaborations between the department and community partners in South West Wales.

The focus of the Community Progression Project for instance was to develop new learning opportunities for under-represented groups through negotiation with local people,by developing a high level of student support and by developing new curriculum. The Connecting Communities Cymru Project had as focus widening access and participation to higher learning by providing a community based ICT infrastructure and the development of innovative learning opportunities using ICT and online learning. I developed the MA in Lifelong Learning programme in the department and am the strategic manager of the e-Learning provision.
